How To Be Extraordinary Part 2: Question Established Beliefs

Mort OrmanStress Relief

Dr. Mort Orman here and this week, I am publishing a 5-part series on how to be extraordinary.

in this second post the series, I’m going to review Part 1 of Mindvalley founder Vishen Lakhiani’s new book, The Code Of The Extraordinary Mind.

Part 1 is called “Living In The Culturescape” and it is all about how we get programmed to have certain beliefs, thoughts, ideas, rules and daily practices, primarily based upon what is passed down to us from others.

It is the author’s contention that truly extraordinary people give themselves permission to challenge many of the ideas and rules that most other people  blindly accept.

I agree with this fully.

One rule Vishen points out (among many others highlighted in the book) is the widespread idea that work and play should be two very different and separate things.

Our culture teaches us that we should work very hard when we are working, and play and have fun when we are not working.

Vishen describes how he came to challenge this dominant mindset and how he has intentionally structured his very successful company, Mindvalley, to combine work and play as much as possible.

He also gives excellent advice for how to identify ideas and rules that probably should be challenged.

Be Extraordinary–My Reflections On Part 1

In my own life, I had to do exactly what Vishen is talking about here before I could escape from my own stress daemons, which plagued me for much of my early years (until I was in my 30s).

The personal breakthroughs I had that enabled me to eliminate much of my anger, anxiety, relationship conflicts and other types of stress were entirely due to me rejecting just about everything  I was taught to believe about stress.

And now I teach people how to reduce or eliminate much of their own stress by doing the very same thing.

Watch this short video where I explain even more about how valuable (and sometimes difficult) this key skill really is.

Also, if you missed my first post in this series, here is the link to view that post and it’s accompanying video as well.
