Dr. Mort Orman here and today I want to focus on the second big key to greater health, happiness and success in your life: Life Mastery.
This is the second part of a discussion about three key masteries that challenge each of us every day: self mastery, life mastery, and stress mastery.
In Part 1 of this series, I talked about self mastery skills, such as controlling our thoughts, mastering our emotions, resisting our impulses and temptations, telling the truth, and several others.
Today, I’m going to focus on life mastery skills and know-how.
Life Mastery: The Second Key Mastery
Life mastery refers to our ability to master many important aspects of living happily and succeeding in life.
For example, having a purpose in life that is fulfilling and meaningful to you is one key aspect of life mastery. If that purpose brings joy, improvement, happiness and success to both you and other people, so much the better.
Learning how to become competent and successful at a career, profession or occupation is another big part of life mastery.
The same is true for knowing how to get along with others, and how to create and maintain lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with others.
Learning how to generate and manage money is another key life mastery skill.
So is learning how to learn, and how to master any key field of knowledge, should you either desire or need to do that.
Knowing how to raise happy, healthy, well-adjusted children is another area of life that many of us struggle with.
And, in our modern age of technology, learning how to master your computer, your smart phone, your juicer and other electronic gadgets is more or less a requirement.
And the list goes on and on.
Mastery Over Reality
One of the biggest areas of life mastery where most people struggle today is our ability to both understand and master reality.
You could argue that everything I’ve said so far is nothing more than learning how to master reality…how the world really works…and you would be correct.
But when it comes to how we live our daily lives, there is a deeper problem lurking in the background.
This problem is that, as a society, we are constantly being misinformed about reality.
For example, we are constantly being misinformed by the media and other sources that a recent scientific study “proved” such and such is absolutely true.
Yet nowhere are we reminded that science can never prove anything to be true.
It never has, and it never will. That’s because science is not a system for proving or detecting truths. It is merely a system for making better predictions.
Gravity Doesn’t Pull…It Pushes
Similarly, we live in a world where almost everyone still believes that gravity is a force of nature whereby large objects exert a “pulling” or attractive force upon smaller objects.
We live, think and perceive this way, even though Einstein showed almost 100 years ago that this classical Newtonian concept of gravity is totally incorrect.
Einstein showed that gravity is actually a “pushing out” force and not a “pulling in” force.
And when his insights were recently confirmed and publicized in the press, little mention was made that we’ve been living in a “false reality” about gravity—and still continue to do so—for almost a century now.
What Else Are We Terribly Mistaken About?
You might be thinking “what does being wrong about science and about gravity have to do with me?”
Well, it actually has a great deal to do with you, and how good you are at mastering many different aspects of your life.
You see, if the majority of people in our society can be so very wrong about huge things like science and gravity, what does this say about other false ideas about life we might also be harboring?
Might we be harboring false ideas about what love really is, or what makes our relationships succeed or fail?
Do you think a societal divorce rate of well over 50% (and climbing) means we might not be well-connected to the truth about how relationships actually work here?
And what about false ideas about how to be healthy or about what makes us sick?
Do you think we’ve been given any false ideas about this important aspect of our lives?
Life Mastery = Reality Mastery
It’s hard to master any area of life—love, relationships, health, money, etc.—if you are not in touch with key “realities” about how these parts of life actually function.
Unfortunately, reality is not a strong suit for most of us.
There is much we need to get clear about here. Much we need to learn about life and much we need to better understand.
Once again, in my coaching and training work with thousands of individuals during the past 30 years, I have helped many people improve their understanding of how life actually works, in many key areas that are important to them.
In fact, if you want to experience this type of reality-based training for yourself, I invite you to attend my upcoming one-day live stress relief workshop titled “How To Become A Low Stress Person In A High Stress World.”
For those of you who live in or near the Baltimore area, or for those who are willing to travel in for the day or weekend to have an enjoyable, life-changing experience, the workshop will be held on Saturday, April 16th in Hunt Valley, MD.
You can download a PDF flyer about this event at https://docorman.com/seminar.pdf and you can register to attend at https://docorman.com/april16 (50% discounted early bird rate available if you register before April 1).
