How To Be Extraordinary Part 5: Have A Calling

Mort OrmanStress Relief

Dr. Mort Orman here and in my final post in this 5-part series, I’m going to review Part 4 of the new book by Mindvalley founder Vishen Lakhiani, The Code Of The Extraordinary Mind.  In this last section of the book, called “Being Extraordinary: Changing The World,” Vishen talks about what it means to have a calling.

Have A Calling…Not A Career

In this section, Vishen talks about how all the many extraordinary people he knows have a calling and not a career.

They have a life mission, or life purpose, to change the world and make it a better place.

They have the desire to improve the lives of others and to leave the world a better place because they were in it…making a difference…for as long as they can.

Vishen’s calling is expressed through his company Mindvalley.  He sees his life work as inviting people to become extraordinary through personal growth, learning and personal transformation.

A Calling Pulls You Forward And Sustains You

According to Vishen, when you have a calling it pulls you forward in life, inspires you to get out of bed each day, and it also sustains you because it is usually big enough, and bold enough, that it never really ends.

You may have lots of major accomplishments and do many great things along the way, but if your calling is a true one, there will always be new horizons to explore and many more people for you to contribute to.

He talks about a number of other things in this section, which are all very insightful, and he also reflects on how the principles he revealed in the first three sections of his book put us in better position to not only find a true calling but to respond to it powerfully.

My Reflections On Part 4

Most of The Code Of The Extraordinary Mind leads up to this final section, since in Vishen’s view, when you become extraordinary, you will have a natural desire to improve the lives of others.

There are many other great parts of this book and many other excellent discussions that I wasn’t able to mention in this short 5-part series.  So I highly recommend that you get the book and read it.

You can also watch this final short video where I talk about my own personal calling and how I finally came to it.
